Bringing generations together through music
Music has the power to connect people across all ages. SongTime with Jo Jingles is a heartwarming and interactive programme designed to enhance the well-being of older adults by bringing them together with children and families through music, singing, and movement.
What is SongTime?
Since launching in 1991, Jo Jingles has been a leading provider of fun and educational music, singing, and movement classes for young children. With the growing interest in music-based intergenerational sessions, we have developed SongTime. This programme connects children, parents, and care home residents in shared music and singing experiences.
These sessions help create a music-centered environment where everyone can participate, feel included, and enjoy the joy of music together. SongTime aims to improve the well-being of older adults by encouraging engagement and social connection in care home settings.

Whether it’s bringing existing Jo Jingles sessions to care homes, hosting new classes within your care home, or running traditional sessions with classic nursery rhymes, we have something for everyone.
- Bringing children and parents from existing Jo Jingles sessions into care homes, where residents can join in a live music class.
- Hosting new Jo Jingles classes within your care home, welcoming local families to take part.
- Running traditional Jo Jingles sessions with songs, instruments, and props featuring classic nursery rhymes and tunes that spark joyful memories.
- Creating bespoke themed music programmes tailored to your residents' preferences, including birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and special events.
Groups are typically small (maximum 10-12 children) to allow for meaningful interactions and engagement.
Why offer Intergenerational sessions?
There is growing research supporting the health and social benefits of intergenerational activities. Bringing together younger and older generations through music helps to:
Music unlocks robust emotional responses, particularly in dementia care.
These sessions help older adults feel more connected while introducing children to positive interactions with older generations.
Singing and movement can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance overall well-being for all participants.
Research shows that using the power of music, especially singing, to unlock memories and kickstart the grey matter is an increasingly important feature of dementia care. It appears to reach parts of the damaged brain in ways other forms of communication cannot.
